Why I Chose Peace of Mind Over Money in My Career

There are times in my life where I wish I had more money, but I later understood that it’s what everyone wishes as well. Even for a person with an annual salary of 1 million, what they earn is never enough. It is human psychology to want more money or more assets constantly.

But being a minimalist, though I like to have good things, I never wanted too many of them. A house, a car and a few other simple things are what I always wanted, and I am glad I have them today.

Money is good motivator, especially in the corporate world. The sad part, however, is that most of us fall prey to it. Apparently, the world is in trillions of dollars of debt to ourselves. Isn’t that funny?

Choosing My Career

“Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
— Confucius

When I graduated with a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, I thought I would be one of those engineers in an automobile plant watching all the new cars rolling out of the assembly line. However, I could only get to the doors of these factories to drop my resume which I am sure no one even bothered to look at.

Back in my home country, you needed to ‘know someone’ in the company already to get a good job, otherwise you had to start from scratch…
