Why Are More Millennials Choosing to Be Child-free?

Recently, I read an article that millennials (also known as Generation Y) are more interested in having an animal pet than a child of their own. Many others are choosing to adopt a child instead of giving birth to one. For most humans, this might seem crazy or abnormal, but if we look at it from the perspective of people who choose to be child-free, almost every viewpoint make sense.

Generally, millennials are the people who were born in the period from the late 1980s to the early 2000s. But just in case you are curious to learn more about millennials, here is an amazing Ted Talk by Scott Hess.

The Generation Gap

Most of the people that gave birth to millennials come under the Gen X umbrella; they are also known as ‘Baby Boomers’. As simple as their title sounds, baby boomers contributed highly to the population growth in their time.

The babies that were ‘boomed’ by Gen X turned out to be millennials, or Gen Y. As Scott Hess summarizes in the video above, these millennials had a completely different approach to life compared to their predecessors. This gap in the perspective of life, morals, values and purpose of existence is now addressed as the generation gap.
