Two Sides of the Toonie— The Realization of my Canadian Dream

It’s been almost 6 years since I moved to The True North, and I must say, the expedition turned out to be a great journey thus far. I was one of the many immigrants who moved from India to Canada in 2017, and each of us had our own reasons to come here. There are now more than 8.3 million immigrants in Canada, and most of us don’t move here to steal jobs or ruin the economy. Instead, we are here to rebuild our lives, and give back to the country we now call home.

The Reason For the Journey

All good journeys must have a purpose. So, why did I decide to take a flight halfway across the world after a few sleepless nights?

For me, it was simple — I needed a better quality of life. My career was stagnant. I was living with my parents, surrounded by the extended family — uncles, aunts and cousins who were working in the IT/software industry making good coin, and I was the lone wolf who chose to study Mechanical Engineering and refused to follow the herd into becoming a software engineer. I never saw myself sitting in front of a computer screen, writing code all day. I still don’t, and I never would!
