The Case for Being Childfree

We, as humans, call ourselves the most advanced species on this planet. But we are such an intelligent species, that we created a system based on currency — numbers printed on paper, metal or digital ones that appear on your bank account. This has made human lives costly, and for that life to go on, one must pay. Is there any other species on this planet that has a ‘cost of living’? I think that is something one should ponder upon.

However, it’s not all that simple. We pay for real estate, food, water and even air these days. But with every new human added to this planet, we also pay additional ‘overhead costs’. “What are those?” one may ask. Let me give you a few examples — global warming, climate change, forest fires. While we can continue to deny these and bat a blind eye to the consequences, a deteriorating future is inevitable. That’s at least, if we fail to address the elephant(s) in the room. Or, if we just walk around denying science.

Why I Chose to Be Childfree

“When you grow up, get married and have kids…”

I was born and raised in India, a country that is now the most populated in the world — both in terms of volume and density. When I was still a child, I remember my parents and relatives telling me things like ‘When you grow up, get married and have kids, you will understand how it is!’…
