No, I Don’t Make $1000 Writing Every Month

I can’t help but come across at least one of those articles titled “I Made $5000 Last Month Writing for…” or something similar in my daily reads. A few years back, when I was beginning to write, I would read these articles thinking they would change my life. But today, I just skip them as quick as I am halfway through the title.

In 2023, where the cost of living is skyrocketing, there is no middle ground. You’re either poor or rich. But for people like me who really want to write, the options of making a living solely by writing are quite slim.

Writing as a Hobby

I’ve read articles about people mentioning how much they earn writing. Here is the truth — most of them do not have a ‘9 to 5’. While some mention that they had a day job and quit it to follow their writing passion, that just isn’t feasible for many of us with an average pay.

Furthermore, some of these people have financial strength either in the form of savings, inheritance or they just have a partner who has a job that can support the entire family, while they write articles all day.
