If You Could Save the Planet One Plate at a Time, Would You?

Food. Yes, that’s something we all share a relationship. Most of us are very conscious about what we put on our plate, and that is a great thing. However, that consciousness is limited to just the relationship between the food and ourselves, say for example, diets. But there’s more to it than just watching what food you eat and how it affects your body. This is just the last part of the food’s journey. Most of it is already complete before it reaches your plate.

Consider this scenario: Someone walks into a ‘fish and chips’ restaurant and orders fish and chips. Let’s say they get a drink along with it. They consider themselves to be environmentally conscious and hence refuse to take plastic straws. However, they walk out of the restaurant with a meal made of fish put in a plastic container, with plastic forks and knives that can be used only once, ketchup sachets, and a plastic bag.

Look Beyond Your Plate

Most of us think up to the plate, but not beyond it.

You might go to your choice of supermarkets to get your choice of food, and of course, that involves a lot of planning. If you eat healthy, it’s even worse because you should be careful about what you are buying. Then come the allergies, specific conditions…
