September 5 is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India, in memory of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. In Canada, I believe it is October 5. Different dates, but the same purpose — to honour the teachers that continue to teach, against all odds.
With all new rules and strict policies, the current educational system favours students more than it did a few decades back. Students are now allowed to attend classes as they wish, carry mobile phones to class, and shouldn’t be punished unless it was a severe offense.
When I was a student, it was completely different. I have no idea of the Canadian educational system back then, but from I heard, I guess it was quite similar — there is more liberty now than there was earlier. We were punished for every single mistake we made: from coming a few minutes late to class to not doing our homework.
Speaking of homework, kids spend a couple of minutes to complete it today. Well, we had to spend hours. We went home after school (which took a full day), then did our homework, had dinner and went to bed. It was not an easy life.
Why I Sometimes Miss My Teachers
